The AAP leadership has zeroed in on 11 acres along the Bathinda road for its Maghi Mela political rally. If their ‘pandal’ in set up on such a vast area, it would be three times bigger than that of the SAD-BJP alliance’s pet rally ground on the Malout road here.
AAP leaders, during a meeting here on Saturday, had even claimed that they would make efforts to bring about five lakh people for the rally to be addressed by party’s national convener-cum-Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Not just the SAD-BJP alliance, even the Congress and the PPP have always held their rallies in an area measuring about three acres.
Though the new PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh yesterday assigned tasks to leaders for party’s Maghi Mela conference, after coming to know about the AAP’s rally area, Congress leaders are now confused over the selection of their rally area.
Gurmeet Singh Khudian, district Congress president, who is also coordinator for the rally, said, “The rally venue and total area would be finalised on Tuesday.”
On the other hand, preparations have already begun on SAD’s Maghi Mela rally venue on the Malout road, which belongs to the SGPC. But, a senior SAD leader said the rally venue was not yet decided because of the sudden demise of SAD’s district president Dyal Singh Kolianwali’s younger brother Karnail Singh.
Meanwhile, the PPP is unsure about holding the event this year.
